When we have a sunny afternoon in the Pacific Northwest, we
have to take a few hours to enjoy it. I
had a great treat last Sunday. I
observed a mother Black Headed Grosbeak teaching her fledgling to feed
itself.
They first got my attention because there were two birds on
the same stump in our backyard where we keep a variety of feeders to suit as
many birds as possible. Momma was giving
baby some seeds. She then flew to the
platform feeder and baby followed. Momma
gave baby some seeds again. The
fledgling learned quickly, getting its own seed.
Something startled
them and they were gone. All in less
than a minute.
So don’t worry about the small stuff we think is so
important. Enjoy the wonder and magic of
Nature. Your body and soul will enjoy
the break!
